Traditional and Contemporary, East and West, Innovative and Investigative Non Dual Meditations and Teachings through the use of Visualization, Discussion, Music, Art and more

Jen teaches Tibetan guided meditations.

Step one:

Preparing the room.  Doing yoga or other stretching to ensure comfort while sitting.  Occasionally we do breathwork (pranayama).

Step two:

Assume a proper meditation posture.

Step three:

We discuss some suggested meditation subjects for that day.

Step four:

In Tibetan Buddhist meditation there is a practice of doing guided mental preliminaries to meditation.  These include: bringing to mind your purpose for meditating, focusing on the breath, paying respect to your guru (whether a live person, the Buddha, or some other inspiring figure), confessing bad deeds and rejoicing in good ones, and dedicating your practice.  These preliminaries are meant to prepare the mind to enter meditation.

Step five:

Focus on the object we're using that day, or on the object you are currently using in your personal practice.

Step six:

Return to your bodily awareness.  Become conscious of your surroundings.

Step seven:

Discuss our experiences, goals, etc etc

Meditation is the concentration of the mind on a virtuous object.

The relative, or short-term aims of meditation are to focus and strengthen the mind.  Also to understand and learn to improve our karma (our personal patterns of behavior and the effects they produce).  The ultimate aim is to tranform ourselves and our world, by attaining single-pointed focus (shamata) and insight or wisdom (vipashyana).

What is non dual meditation?

It essentially means becoming one-pointed in concentration, not scattered or divided in your mind, body and spirit. It incorporates methods and techniques from the various non dual wisdom traditions. (mostly Buddhist/Taoist)  It is very simple so anyone can do it, anytime or any place once you know how. At work or play. Every action you take becomes an opportunity to practice this.

What are the benefits of this practice?

The benefit of this practice is a tranquil, bright, compassionate, contented and focused mind, body and spirit. As well as increased self awareness and equanimity. If practiced over long periods of time it may also help with de-conditioning the mind of negative traits, patterns, proclivities and tendencies.

What is the aim?

The aim is not having an aim because what you are aiming at is what you already are, but you could say it's "enlightenment" or natural non dual awareness.  A sense of being completed. Contented. Whole without a need to seek anything more from an external source for one's happiness.
