INTERVIEW
NDM: Does an enlightened
person fear aging, sickness and death?
Jeffrey Martin: In my experience this seems to be greatly reduced, if not
eliminated.
NDM: Would an enlightened person wear seductive clothing, makeup, have
plastic surgery, (implants, Botox, liposuction), or even
color their hair
to appear younger, more attractive for their self esteem, or to attract
followers, disciples/clients?
Jeffrey Martin: I'm not sure about your reasons here, but I have seen them
wear attractive clothing, and I know of men and women who have had botox and
colored their hair. Mostly the latter seemed to be so they would appear more
attractive to the opposite sex upon, often upon becoming single for the
first time in a while. It seemed like it was done from a practical
standpoint, rather than because of internal needs (such as self esteem).
NDM :
Would an enlightened person take sleeping pills, drink alcohol, take
recreational drugs (smoke marijuana, LSD), or medication for mood control,
anxiety, depression (Prozac, or Viagra)?
Jeffrey Martin: Yes, participants in our study reported taking a wide
variety of pharmaceuticals, including sleeping pills, medication to control
uncontrollable body shaking that would have otherwise been associated with
anxiety (though no anxiety was felt psychologically), as well as
pharmaceuticals like Viagra.
ND M:
Would an enlightened person have an aversion to harsh or desolate living
conditions, isolation, desert, jungle, forest, (excessively cold or hot
weather climates), fear of wild animals, snakes, scorpions, bears, tigers,
crocodiles, sharks and spiders?
Jeffrey Martin: I think environment would mostly depend on the person, and
their preferences. Regarding fears of animals that could kill them in these
places, I suspect that their body would elicit an appropriate physiological
response to ensure their safety when such animals were around. At some
locations on the continuum, it is possible that this might be a very short
feeling of fear, at locations I would not expect that to arise at all.
NDM:
Can an enlightened person lose their temper, use foul language, or harsh
speech, sarcasm, ridicule, make off color jokes?
Jeffrey Martin: Sure, I've seen all of these.
ND M:
Would an enlightened person make a legal disclaimer for their
teachings, as to not be held responsible? (Please see example
below).
Jeffrey Martin: I think this would depend on the
individual and their legal savvy, the needs country they reside in, and so
forth. If it made sense and was practical, I don't see why it would be
avoided. Frankly, someone knowledgeable should probably put out something
like this for folks to use.
